Piero Dorazio Futura II

Piero Dorazio
Futura II
, 1963-1964

oil on canvas, 23 × 30 cm

Protagonist of Italian abstraction since the 1940s, when he signed the manifesto of the Forma group, Dorazio has always opted for a painting of signs with a rational approach, attentive to the values of optical perception. The pictorial line has always been thought of as an element inserted in a texture, in a grid, based on crossings and alternations, on bands and spots, of which the artist studies the chromatic interferences. In the small work in the collection, the stratifications of curved or serpentine signs that furrow the surface horizontally also serve as energy vectors, and recall the trendy lines of Futurist origin.
