Lucio Fontana. Le scritture del disegno
curated by Gloria Bianchino
May 13 - June 26 2009
Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro, Via Solari 35, Milano
The initiative for an exhibition on Lucio Fontana’s graphic production was born out of a collaboration with the CSAC (Study Centre and Communication Archive) of the University of Parma, founded by art historian Arturo Carlo Quintavalle.
The exhibition, curated by Gloria Bianchino (Director of the CSAC), offers the public access to the rich body of research collected by Quintavalle over more than twenty years of work, presenting a selection of 127 of the 313 works on paper by Lucio Fontana donated by his wife Teresita to the university collections in Parma—the largest public collection of Lucio Fontana’s graphic works.
The drawings on display span a period from the late 1930s to the late 1960s, offering a unique and invaluable insight into a significant body of work that explores a variety of different fields: from the design of exhibition installations (such as the 1966 Venice Biennale in collaboration with Carlo Scarpa), to architectural integrations like plaster ceilings and the doors of the Milan Cathedral, to drawings of nudes and theatrical scenes, as well as designs for ceramics and sculptures.
The exhibition is accompanied by a catalog published by the Foundation featuring texts by Arnaldo Pomodoro, Gloria Bianchino, and Angela Vettese.
