Gastone Novelli. Scritti ’43-’68

curated by Paola Bonani
September 24, 2019
Studio Arnaldo Pomodoro, Via Vigevano 3, Milan

Tuesday, September 24, at 6:00 PM in Arnaldo Pomodoro's Studio, the Foundation will host the presentation of the book Gastone Novelli. Scritti ’43-’68, edited by Paola Bonani. Luigi Ballerini, Luca Cerizza, and Paola Nicolin will speak; the curator will also be present.

The volume GASTONE NOVELLI. Scritti ’43 – ’68, published by NERO, collects the entire corpus of writings by Gastone Novelli written between 1943 and 1968, including those that remained unpublished until today, as well as those already published by Achille Perilli in 1976 in a monographic issue of the journal Grammatica. This collection of texts spans the history of Italy's artistic and political landscape in the second half of the twentieth century and, at the same time, offers a raw account of the life of this figure, who was not only a painter and artist, but also a teacher, a fervent polemicist, a publisher, a writer, and a political activist. The letters and stories from prison, the youthful political manifesto of the European Confederative Movement, the composition courses taught in Brazil and Rome, the theoretical texts for the journals L'Esperienza moderna and Grammatica, his decisive interventions on the São Paulo Biennale, the Verucchio Conference, the Rome Quadriennale, and the Venice Biennale, as well as those on Surrealism and the politics of the P.S.I., and much more.
