Labyr-Into
Dentro il Labirinto di Arnaldo Pomodoro

curated by Francesca Valente
August 28 - September 26, 2021
Sala delle Pietre , Palazzo del Popolo, Piazza del Popolo, Todi

As part of the collaboration between the Arnaldo Pomodoro Foundation and the Beverly Pepper Projects Foundation for the Festival delle Arti 2021, and within the framework of the Todi Festival, the exhibition Labyr-Into. Inside the Labyrinth of Arnaldo Pomodoro will open in Todi on August 28, curated by Francesca Valente.

The multimedia exhibition, set up in the captivating setting of the Sala delle Pietre at Palazzo del Popolo, is a tribute and a narrative of Ingresso nel labirinto (1995-2011), one of the most fascinating and enigmatic works by Arnaldo Pomodoro. It is an environmental installation of approximately 170 square meters located in the basement of the former Riva Calzoni steelworks in Milan.

The Labyrinth is – as Arnaldo Pomodoro writes – a reflection on all my work: the act of reappropriation and recovery of an artistic activity that has traversed the decades of my life and constitutes a sort of synthesis of it.

Through two Gear VR stations, visitors can virtually enter the artwork, which, thanks to immersive technology, extends through both space and time in the Sala delle Pietre. This creates a highly engaging and evocative multisensory experience. A true digital environment created by Oliver Pavicevic and Steve Piccolo, who reconstructed the spaces in virtual reality using innovative holographic technologies and photometric scanning. The Sala delle Pietre will also feature some physical presences: the bronze model that reproduces at scale all the environments of the artwork and the large Cuttlefish Bone in fiberglass, a model of one of the elements that make up the environment. The exhibition is further enriched by photographs taken by Dario Tettamanzi and the evocative and emotional video of the performance O Labirinto (2011) with verses specially composed by Aldo Nove and recited by Federica Fracassi (directed by Piergiorgio Gay, produced by the Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro, Milan).

The vernissage will be preceded at 5:00 PM in the Council Hall by an Art Talk with the curator Francesca Valente in conversation with Bruno Corà, Fondazione Burri (Città di Castello), Marco Tonelli, Palazzo Collicola (Spoleto), and Federico Giani, Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro (Milan). During this event, the exhibition catalog will be presented and distributed.
