Arnaldo Pomodoro Sculpture Prize. 4th edition | Antonella Zazzera

The Foundation dedicates a solo exhibition to Antonella Zazzera, winner of the fourth edition of the Arnaldo Pomodoro Prize for Sculpture. The exhibition, curated by Ada Masoero, presents a large installation and eighteen works of various formats in the spaces of Via Vigevano 9, most of which were created specifically for this occasion.

After photography, drawing, and engraving, Antonella Zazzera’s research is now consistently conducted through the privileged use of copper wire, a material that is extremely variable in texture, flexibility, gauge, and colors, which the artist layers through laborious processes of overlapping and progressive “sedimentation.” The shapes taken by these true bundles of “threads of light” are always carefully calibrated, molded from an expressive vocabulary rooted in nature, her first teacher and guide in her work: the large Armonici are, in fact, born in the summer, when Zazzera works outdoors, and the same happens with the velvety Carte/Scultura, created with metal threads dipped in pulp and then dried in the breeze and warmth of the sun, while the Ri-Trattiche and Naturalia in the form of nests inhabit the colder months of the year.

The works on display will offer the opportunity to appreciate one of the most evident qualities of Antonella Zazzera’s work: that “naturalness” which is never “ease,” but rather the result of the meeting between a deep familiarity with the life and rhythms of the earth and a rigorous and controlled approach to design, in an inspiring intertwining of Nature and Culture.

On the occasion of the exhibition, the seventh issue of the Quaderni will be published, which presents the works installed in the exhibition space and documents, with texts in Italian and English, Zazzera’s creative journey through an essay by Ada Masoero, a dialogue with the artist, and a brief bio-bibliographic appendix.
