Guerriero (1958–1959) by Marino Marini exhibited in the exhibition Giovanni Pisano. Memories of a Sculptor
13 dicembre 2025 – 8 marzo 2026
Pisa, Palazzo dell’Opera del Duomo
On the occasion of the centenary of the relocation of Giovanni Pisano's pulpit inside the Cathedral (1926), the exhibition aims to illustrate how the figure of Giovanni Pisano and his work have been constructed and transmitted over the past five centuries. Drawings, casts, paintings, sculptures, sketches, engravings, and photographs contribute to reconstructing how artists, scholars, and observers of varying renown, Italian and international, have looked at his work and how this has influenced artistic production by framing it and placing it within different historical interpretations. Finally, the exhibition examines how the sculptor's legacy has been received in the European context, in terms of the preservation and enhancement of his work and his figure.
The group of objects brought together in the exhibition, by engaging in a close dialogue with the works present in the setting of Pisa Cathedral Square and the city itself, seeks to retrace the path through which Giovanni Pisano acquired his artistic identity in the shadow of his father, Nicola. From Vasari to Henry Moore, through the complex process of deconstruction and reconstruction of the cathedral pulpit, the exhibition aims to offer an original contribution to the history of sculpture and to the ways in which an artist's biography is transmitted across the century.
Also on display is the work Guerriero (1958–1959), on loan from the Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro Collection.
