Una scrittura sconcertante. Arnaldo Pomodoro. Opere 1954-1960
Curated by Flaminio Gualdoni
April 10 - June 28, 2013
Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro, Via Vigevano 9, Milano
The Foundation inaugurates its new exhibition space at Via Vigevano 9 with an exhibition, curated by Flaminio Gualdoni, which documents the first creative season of Arnaldo Pomodoro through twenty-eight bas-reliefs in lead, silver, bronze, and some drawings.
Having moved to Milan in 1954, the artist began weaving his graphic reliefs, creating visual situations that straddle the line between two-dimensionality and three-dimensionality. The intellectual influence of Klee, who described himself as “abstract with some memory,” can be felt in the lyrical step and natural filigree typical of Pomodoro’s work from that time, expressed in titles that refer to “horizon,” “vegetative situation,” “vegetative extension,” and “landscape.” This is the path that leads him to the awareness of the abstract sign as a plastic cell, characteristic of his entire extraordinary subsequent journey.
The exhibition is accompanied by the first issue of the Quaderni, the new series of publications by the Foundation.
