Tutto è felice nella vita dell’arte. Tribute to Giovanni Carandente
curated by Luciano Caprile
September 30 - December 11, 2015
Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro, Via Vigevano 9, Milano
The Foundation pays tribute to the extraordinary figure of Giovanni Carandente (1926-2009) with an exhibition, curated by Luciano Caprile, which delves into his role as the creator and organizer of the Sculture nella città (Sculptures in the City) event (Spoleto, 1962), a unique and unrepeatable event in the Italian artistic scene, and highlights his critical ability to interpret the work of some of the greatest artists of the 20th century.
Thanks to the collaboration of Palazzo Collicola Arti Visive Spoleto – Museo Carandente and the contribution of Eugenio Carmi, Carlo Lorenzetti, Beverly Pepper, as well as the Museo d’Arte Contemporanea Villa Croce di Genova, the Archivio Fondazione Ansaldo, and some private collectors, the exhibition will display the sketches and project drawings of the sculptures created for the historic 1962 Spoleto exhibition, alongside works by major international artists – such as Alexander Calder, Anthony Caro, Eduardo Chillida, Henry Moore, and David Smith – showcasing the long and intense bond between the artists and the critic. Alongside the sculptors' works, the exhibition will feature photographs by Ugo Mulas and a rich selection of documents.
Published on the occasion of the exhibition, the sixth issue of the Quaderni serves as a valuable tool for in-depth study. It contains, in addition to images of the works on display, an anthology of critical texts by Carandente selected by Stefano Esengrini and testimonies from some of the protagonists of the Spoleto experience.
