Il mistero di Cleopatra / Le mystère Cléopâtre / The mistery of Cleopatra
Institut du monde Arabe, Parigi
June 11, 2025 – January 11, 2026
On July 11, the exhibition “The Mystery of Cleopatra” opens to the public at the Institut du monde Arabe in Paris. Among the great female figures of history, Cleopatra, the last sovereign of Egypt, is the most popular. Around her character, a dark legend has been forged, later turning into a universal figure that embodies passion and death, sensuality and cruelty, wealth and war, politics and feminism.
What are the foundations of this legend? How have artists appropriated it over the centuries? Why is she still so fascinating? Let’s explore the “Cleopatra mystery” together…
Also on display, on loan from the Collection of the Arnaldo Pomodoro Foundation, are the ornaments and costumes created by Arnaldo Pomodoro for The Passion of Cleopatra by Ahmad Shawqi (directed and adapted by Cherif), staged in 1989 among the ruins of Gibellina.
