Arnaldo Pomodoro
Forma X, I, 1968-1969

Colored fiberglass, ∅ 200 cm

In the Forma X series, and particularly in Forma X, I (1968–1969), Arnaldo Pomodoro constructs a sculptural system based on inversion and opposition. The masses of colored fiberglass intersect in an unstable balance, where each element appears simultaneously to support and negate the other, generating a continuous tension between opposing directions. The work translates into space the principle of alternation between solids and voids, no longer as a simple contrast but as a condition of mutual dependence: the volumes, although solid, suggest an internal dynamic of openness and passage. This logic is connected to the artist’s parallel investigation of technical and design language, in which forms and axes are articulated as three-dimensional projections of a constructive thought process, suspended between geometric rigor and dynamic perception.
