In 2024, on the occasion of the centenary of Leonetti’s birth, the Arnaldo Pomodoro Foundation promoted the restoration and digitization of Processo politico. The work on the original reels, carried out by the Home Movies Foundation – National Family Film Archive.
Produced in 1971 by the collective behind the magazine “Che fare” and directed by Francesco Leonetti and Arnaldo Pomodoro, the film examines the socio-political context of the years 1969–1970 in Italy, denouncing the death of the anarchist Giuseppe Pinelli and recounting the defamation trial brought by Commissioner Luigi Calabresi against the weekly magazine “Lotta Continua” for accusing him of the murder. By combining genres and temporal perspectives, documentary and fiction, the film stands as a significant example of that “militant cinema” which, between the 1960s and 1970s, became an important tool of counter-information.
The work carried out on the original film reels has restored to public viewing a precious testimony to that intense season of cultural and political engagement.
The restored edition was presented at IULM University in October 2025 during an event open to the public, and is available for loan in digital format.
