Project Room #6
Bruno Botella
..non si agita né si scuote, senza muovere piede, né mano, né un dito, senza muovere gli occhi né parlare
curated by Simone Menegoi
November 14 - December 20, 2017
Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro, Via Vigevano 9, Milano
For the final chapter of the Project Room 2017, curated by Simone Menegoi, from November 15 to December 20 the Foundation hosts the first solo exhibition in Italy of Bruno Botella (1976), one of the most original artists to emerge on the French scene in recent years.
Botella will present a selection of works created between 2012 and 2017, characterized – as always in his artistic practice – by a strongly experimental spirit, both in the use of new materials and techniques, and in the frequent focus on the process rather than the result.
Focusing his attention on sculpture, Botella subverts and reinvents traditional processes, producing results that equally embody provocation, humor, and a subtle vein of cruelty. Among the exhibited works are Qotrob (2012), a plasticine mixed with psychoactive substances capable of causing hallucinations to anyone attempting to mold it; Prognosticator (2017), a sculpture immersed in an aquarium full of leeches, which Botella shaped while simultaneously feeding the animals with his own blood; Oborot (2012), a silicone cast of the artist’s head with his own hair still attached, a sort of bizarre and bloodless “scalp.”
