Sculture nella Città 1971/2024
Dall’arte pubblica di Arnaldo Pomodoro allo spazio urbano di dieci giovani autori

curated by Pippo Ciorra, Michele Giorgi, Carola Nava
4 February – 5 May 2024
Centro Arti Visive Pescheria, corso XI settembre 254, Pesaro

The exhibition "Sculture nella Città 1971/2024. Dall’arte pubblica di Arnaldo Pomodoro allo spazio urbano di dieci giovani autori", opens on 3 February 2024 at the Centro Arti Visive Pescheria in Pesaro. The exhibition is curated by Pippo Ciorra (Senior Curator MAXXI Architettura), Michele Giorgi and Carola Nava (designer).

The thematic fulcrum of the exhibition is the relationship between the arts and public space, starting from the memory and study of the exhibition Arnaldo Pomodoro: Sculture nella città 1971, an occasion which saw the first placement of the fiberglass version of the Sfera grande (1966-1967), which later became one of the most significant works of Pesaro's heritage, and which represented a fundamental stage in the construction of Pesaro's contemporary identity, whose public spaces in the following years were enriched with permanent installations of works by artists such as Pietro Consagra, Eliseo Mattiacci and Mauro Staccioli. Sculture nella città 1971/2024 thus intends to open up to a critical rereading of the historical project and at the same time initiate a new reflection on the broad and complex themes of art and public architecture.

The exhibition – part of the official schedule of Pesaro Capitale italiana della cultura 2024 – is realised thanks to the collaboration of the Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro, which provided two works from his Collection, Colonna intera recisa (1969) and Rotante massimo, IV (1969-1970), present at the 1971 exhibition, and a selection of archive materials, in order to build a story through images and documents of fifty years of life of the Sfera grande.
