Premio Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro. International Competition for Young Sculptors. 2nd edition

Curated by the International Jury of the Prize
May 14 – July 18, 2008
Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro, Via Solari 35, Milano

On May 14, 2008, the exhibition of the selected works for the second edition of the Arnaldo Pomodoro Foundation Prize opens, dedicated to artists under 40. Established at the initiative of Arnaldo Pomodoro, the Prize aims to promote the creativity of young artists internationally and offer them a space for expression.

The 345 applications received from all over the world demonstrate the significant attention the initiative has garnered and the great vitality that sculpture enjoys today, interpreted by competitors in all its forms: from large-scale installations to small works inspired by the art of jewelry making, from sculptures designed for plein air settings, as places for gathering and citizenship, to works to be physically experienced, some of which even cross into architecture and land-art.

Here’s the translation with the HTML kept intact: The works were selected by an International Jury composed of: Arnaldo Pomodoro (President), Valerio Adami (artist), Kosme de Barañano (curator), Susan Ferleger Brades (consultant), Kynaston McShine (curator at MoMA, New York), and Angela Vettese (professor at the Iuav University of Venice).

The jury selected the twenty-five artists who will be present at the exhibition. They are: VALERIO ANCESCHI (Italy), SU-KUONG BANG (South Korea), MAURO BROVELLI (Italy), ANGELO CARDINALE (Germany), PAOLO CAVINATO (Italy), MARCO CHIESA (Italy), FRANCISCO DA MATA (Portugal), MICHELA DEL DEGAN (Italy), ANDREA GOTTI (Italy), MICHELE GUIDO (Italy), /BARBARAGURRIERI/GROUP (Italy), LAURA LIO (Argentina), CLARA LUISELLI (Italy), MONICA MARTINEZ (Mexico), BENJAMIN ORLOW (Finland), ANDREA JACOPO PRINA (Italy), LAURA RENNA (Italy), JAMES ROBERTSON (Great Britain), LIDIA SANVITO (Italy), MARCO GIUSEPPE MARIA SCIFO (Italy), MARCELLO SPADA (Italy), JUSTIN RANDOLPH THOMPSON (USA), MALGORZATA WOJDYLO (Poland), FRANCESCO ZORZELLA (Italy), LEONARDO ZUCCARO MARCHI (Italy).

The winners of the second edition of the Prize will be announced on May 13 during the inauguration of the exhibition. On the same day, the winner of the Costa Crociere Special Prize, sponsor of the exhibition, will also be announced. The Costa Crociere Special Prize will be awarded to the work that best embodies the dreams and needs for new knowledge and new itineraries, destinations of a journey that brings together different yet related realities. Costa Crociere thus aims to consolidate its role as a modern patron, dedicated to promoting various contemporary cultural and artistic expressions.

Accompanying the exhibition is a catalog published by the Foundation, with texts by the members of the Jury and presentation materials on the twenty-five finalists.
